The Beating Heart of Burgundy’s solidarity
The 65th edition of the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction will take place on Sunday 8 March 2026 at Château du Clos de Vougeot with iDealwine/IWA bringing down the hammer. This is a unique occasion to acquire very fine Burgundian wines, all while doing a good deed!
This edition of the auction will be extra special as it is the last vintage to be vinified by Jean-Marc Moron, Hospices de Nuits’ technical director, who has decided to hang up his secateurs and retire after 36 harvests at the estate.

What is the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction?
This auction, which is a major event in the world of fine Burgundian wines and the wine world in general, brings together wine enthusiasts from around the globe. About 150 pièces of roughly 20 different wines (a pièce is a 228-litre barrel) go under the hammer in aid of Hospices Civils de Beaune, a hospital in Burgundy. It groups together the Beaune medical centre, the hospitals of Arnay-le-Duc, Seurre and Nuits-St-Georges, and the training institute for nurses and auxiliaries.
In 2025, the auction raised close to €860,000 thanks to a rise in the average pièce hammer price by 41.5%.
A charity pièce is auctioned to raise funds for a separate charitable organisation which changes each year.
The charity Coucou Nous Voilou, which was the chosen charity last year, was founded in 2015 with the aim to improve the lives of hospitalised children and teenagers through a number of different activities – day trips, holidays, decorations, games, and murals of characters from comics and films. €53,900 for the charity were raised through the sale of bottles from the charity pièce.
A charity auction in aid of the Nuits Saint-Georges hospital
Apart from the proceeds raised by the sale of the charity pièce (288-litre barrel) which raises funds for a charitable organisation other than the Hospices de Nuits Saint-Georges, the entire profit of the auction goes to the Hospices de Nuits Saint-Georges. This winemaking hospital, founded in 1270 – two centuries before the Hospices de Beaune – is a public health institution nowadays. New buildings were opened in 2018. The main focus is care and support of the elderly and palliative care, but the hospital offers classic healthcare too.

AS DESCRIBED BY JEAN-MARC MORON , TECHNICAL DIRECTOR OF THE HOSPICES DE NUITS
A SUNNY GROWING SEASON
With summery conditions from May until September, the harvest started on 3 September, delivering grapes of excellent quality. Such was their quality that hardly any sorting had to take place but having said that, the yield was rather low at 21 hectolitres/hectare on average. The initial impression following several tastings is that the wines possess very high quality and rather unique in the sense that they are structured and elegant, well rounded, offering impeccable balance and a charming profile. We can describe this vintage as atypical because the colour and acidity are at levels usually seen in hot years while the sugar levels are indicative of a normal year, as elegant as it is the epitome of the style of Burgundian Pinot Noir in all its complexity, and as structured because the wines are rich, well crafted and an indicator of a superb year for Burgundy, and thus, capable of ageing. 2025 “is living up to the usual reputation of years ending in a ‘5’, but with greater delicateness,” says the estate’s technical director. To summarise, 2025 is a high quality vintage but with limited quantities.

La pièce de charité | The charity pièce
Like with the 2021, 2022 and 2023 vintages, the charity pièce from 2025 is the famous Nuits-Saint Georges Premier Cru. Behind this name lies a blend of nine premier crus belonging to the Hospices – Les Murgers, Les Corvées Pagets, Les Porrets-Saint-Georges, Les Boudots, Les Didiers, Les Vignerondes, Les Rues de Chaux, Les Saint- Georges, and Les Terres Blanches.
A true ode to the great Pinot Noirs of Nuits-Saint-Georges, this Premier Cru encapsulates the quintessence of the knowledge found within the walls of the Hospices’ winery. To create it, the team dedicated part of the first morning of the harvests to each of the estate’s parcels to gather the best grapes. The same quantity was harvested from each plot. In total, 450 kilograms of grapes were brought to the winery before being sorted and placed in vats. Maceration lasts around 16 to 17 days. After being pressed, the wine is placed in one sole barrel from a French cooperage. Tasting it reveals a wine that unites structure and elegance. It possesses beautiful balance with a wonderful suppleness and just a slight firmness. “This Nuits-Saint- Georges resembles a wine more from the south of the appellation (more pronounced black fruit and spiced flavours) as most of the parcels were from the southern areas,” explained Jean-Marc Moron.
Buying this pièce works a little differently to other barrels as it is not sold through the auction so to speak but rather, buyers put their name down, stating how many bottles they wish to buy and whether they would like to make an additional donation in aid of the chosen charity.

Charity – Ani’nomad

THE CHARITY – ANI’ NOMADE
Each year, the money raised through the sale of the charity pièce (pièce de charité) are donated to a charity carefully chosen by the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges. For the 65th edition of the auction, Ani’nomade has been selected, a pioneer in the field of animal-assisted therapy.
Founded in 2010, the charity aims to combat loneliness through animal-assisted therapy and a programme of activities for those in need. Ani’nomade works with 142 animals and also provides training in animal therapy for thousands of hospitals, health facilities, and retirement homes as well as those in need.
Pet therapy can be organised for individuals or in small group with carefully selected and trained companion animals. Pet therapy improves the cognitive, physical, psychosocial and mental health of participants. Real interactions between patients and animals are at the heart of the charity’s work.
The money raised during this auction will allow Ani’nomade to finance new local projects and the charity’s outdoor space in Plombières-lès-Dijon. This area has been designed to welcome everyone, it is joyful and suitable for all needs, especially for those with reduced mobility. Pet therapy also gives some patients the possibility to leave the hospital for a short period.
Local to the area, Ani’nomade has worked with the Nuits-Saint-Georges hospital for many years, providing support for the elderly and their families. It helps make hospitals a friendlier place and rebuild relationships through animals. Taking part in the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction marks an important step for the charity and the amount raised by the charity pièce will help raise its profile.
“We are a small, local charity. This auction will change everything for us,” explains Claire Mongeot, director of Ani’nomade.

The 2025 vintage will also be the first to don a new label. More clear cut, with a more classic typographyand a white background, it depicts the Nuits-Saint-Georges hospital’s bell tower framed by the town’s coats of arms. An assertive way to put the hospital back at the heart of this historic sale. The new image, with its nod to labels from the 1950s, therefore promises the continuity and legacy of this symbolic auction and offers collectors and wine enthusiasts a recognisable and timeless visual identity.
The 65th Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction marks the second organised by iDealwine, the leading French auction house. iDealwine was appointed in 2024 to organise the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction with the view to continuing its modernisation and renowned around the globe.
The 2026 auction holds a special meaning, and the wines are already highly collectable given that they are the last to be shaped by Jean-Marc Moron, the estate’s director. It is an honour and a great joy for us to promote these wines attentively sculptured with precision by this winemaker who knows and understands the characteristics of each parcel belonging to the Hospices de Nuits like the back of his hand. Vintage after vintage for 35 years, Jean-Marc Moron has crafted Pinot Noir in its most elegant form with a delicate and silky structure, full of charm. The 2025 vintage offers a dazzling demonstration of just that, honouring an accomplished career.
With 800 years of history, the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges has been rooted in Burgundy since 1270 with the tradition of generosity and donations to care for the most vulnerable embedded in its foundations. As for iDealwine, it also engages in different charitable activities throughout the year.
