ART COLOGNE: one of the most important and professional Modern – Contemporary Art Fair!
Since 1967 Art Cologne is the meeting point of the international Art scene, presenting works of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It is known as the oldest Art Fair of its kind worldwide.
Around 200 renowned galleries come together every year in the month of May to present high quality works from over 2, 000 Artists, from very well known Modern Art Artist to the newest, cutting-edge, emerging, young ones.
ART COLOGNE 2017 opens its doors once again from the 26th to 29th April.
One of this year´s Highlights is a large-scale Installation of the German artist Michael Riedel at the entrance hall of the fair. With this year´s premier artist comision, the artist has chosen to scrutinize aspects of the art fair and the art market. The installation title “L” takes its inspiration from the booth Architecture and the hidden mechanics behind the ART COLOGNE. Riedel has created a patern text based of a transcription of one the selecction meeting, which concerned the approval or rejection of galleries applying to ART COLOGNE 2017.
The approximately three hour-long reccording resulted in a 29-page document with a total of 53,689 characters, in which the letter “L” appears 1,894 times.
On a floor area of 350 square meters, Riedel transformes the communication derived from the art system into complex graphic patterns. With the resulting “L” installation, Riedel presents an objective new visibility in which he makes the area of unrealised possibilities, visible.
Since 1980 the sponsorship programme of ” NEW POSITIONS” at ART COLOGNE provides 20 selected young artists with the possiblility to present their works.
The 20 “NEW POSITIONS” at ART COLOGNE 2017 again offer a wide spectrum of artistic creativity: from painting to photography, objectart and intallation, to video and performance.
The works of the young artists deal with social phenomena and political developments, (re)-contructed reallity, reflect the art business, show site-related intallations and interactions, or critically deal with their own artistic expressive means.
ART COLOGNE. The success of the fair is focused on quality and well balance mix of German and International galleries. (218 Galleries from 24 countries). Together they offered visitors a first class exhibition of Modern, Post-war and established contemporary art, as well as brand new contemporary positions – New Contemporaries.
In 2016, the Anniversary Year, 50th. ART COLOGNE was defined by significant growth in the number of visitors, positive sales and good mood. Over 60, 000 art lovers, including top collectors, curators, art advisors and museums staff from Germany, Europe and overseas, visited the fair.
ART COLOGNE 2017, is once again a Must- Attend-Event of the Year; not only about its long Tradition and History, but also about its Quality, nice Atmosphere and excellent Galleries.
