The streets of the village dress up for the night of San Lorenzo with tastings of Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, local food, music, shows for children, exhibitions and much more.

The event has reached its twenty-second edition and is organized by the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano e dei Sapori della Valdichiana Senese (https://www.stradavinonobile.it/en/) in collaboration with the Municipality of Montepulciano.

The event has become a real format, awaited every year by the local inhabitants and tourists who see the streets of the town dressed up for the night of San Lorenzo with tasting stands, with the extraordinary opening of the Contrade del Bravìo delle Botti di Montepulciano for dinners of typical products.

*The night of San Lorenzo – La Notte di San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence Night) is the night of the shooting Stars. It´s a night where the perseids shower can be seen very close to earth. A very magic and romantic night!

in Calici di Stelle a Montepulciano (Wine Glasses of Stars) every year there is something new. Since 2014 with Valdichiana Living, the tour operator within the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Flavors of the Valdichiana, the event organize guided tours of the historic cellars located in the historic center of the town, the famous “Special Calici Tour”; in 2022, together with the tasting of Rosso di Montepulciano and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the possibility of tasting a Cocktail based on Rosso and Amaro di Toscana, an excellent local liqueur, was proposed.

Special collaborations: since its inception, the Fisar, the Italian Federation of Sommeliers Hoteliers Restaurateurs, has been involved in pouring wine at Calici di Stelle a Montepulciano; since 2012, only in some editions, a guided observation of the celestial vault has been carried out in collaboration with the Società Astronomica Poliziana.

The classic tasting of Calici di Stelle a Montepulciano – Buy a star coupon and you will receive the glass and the glass holder to taste wine during the event in the old town. Where: Piazza Grande – Sant’Agostino – 8 districts of Bravìo delle Botti di Montepulciano.

Tour of the historical cellars: Calici di Stelle Special Edition

The tour will take you among the most beautiful places of Montepulciano, where Middle Ages is blended with Reinassance, and the Tuscan landscape with infinity. You will visit one monumental cellar within the walls of the historic center, right in the place where Vino Nobile wine “rests” in barrels.

Inside the cellar you will learn more about the local wines and the secrets of its centenary production. There will be the chance to taste Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG for an unforgettable experience.

Wine Tour of the small producers in Montepulciano

Montepulciano, as we know, is the land of wine. Walking through the streets of the historic center or crossing the hilly landscapes that surround it, it is easy to see vineyards, wineries and wine bars almost everywhere. With this tour you will get to know those small producers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, whose bottles contain the maximum expression of the local terrior.

Moving through the countryside of Montepulciano, you will visit two wineries with annual production equal to or less than 50 thousand bottles. Here the producers will tell you the story of their cellar, revealing the secrets behind the success of a small winery. You will know all the steps that lead to the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Vino Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, from the vineyard to the glass, and you will be able to taste the company’s wines aware of the special attention that the small producer pays to each bottle. At the end of the experience, a tasting of typical products awaits you.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wine tour in e-bike

A tour in which even journey in itself is full of emotions. Riding an electric bike, you will cross the city center of Montepulciano, leaving from Piazza Grande, then you will reach the roads in the countryside. You will pedal with little effort over the hills of Tuscany, not missing the occasion to snap a picture of the most beautiful and picturesque landscapes.

An expert guide will accompany you through the gravel roads and the vineyards of Prugnolo Gentile, until you arrive at the wine cellars for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. Here you will visit a wine agency for a tasting of wines paired with local dishes, from Tuscan salami, bruschetta topped with extra virgin olive oil, and Pecorino cheese from Pienza. Once you have recovered the energy to continue, the tour will return to the walls of the city center of Montepulciano.

Tuscan picnic among the vineyards of Montepulciano

Visit a winery in the countryside of Montepulciano and then enjoy a tasty picnic among the vineyards based on typical products. And have some wine, of course.

How many ways do you know to taste wine? The picnic in the vineyard is definitely one of the most original. This experience will lead you to discover the wines of Montepulciano directly among the vineyards, surrounded by the scents of vine and earth, immersed in the most beautiful views of Valdichiana Senese and Val d’Orcia. The tour begins in a winery in the countryside of Montepulciano, in the heart of Tuscany, where the company staff will welcome you and they will guide you in the visit of the cellar. Here you will learn about the history of the company, the methods and secrets of the production of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and the Rosso di Montepulciano DOC of which you will appreciate the differences during the guided tasting.

At the end of the visit to the cellar, the tour continues through the vineyards where a delicious Tuscan picnic based on typical products of the area awaits you, accompanied by a bottle of Rosso di Montepulciano. You will walk towards the vineyards with the classic basket and blanket, ready to experience an unusual déjeuner sur l’herbe with a rural taste. Tuscan cured meats, pecorino di Pienza cheese with jams and seasonal vegetables will be some of the products of your picnic and, as well as amaze you with their quality, they will enhance the taste of Rosso DOC, the perfect bottle for this situation. A convivial experience, ideal to enjoy with friends, in couple or with the family (the blueberry fruit juice will amaze children!). The possibility of experiencing it in the morning or afternoon makes it a valid and pleasant alternative to brunch or to the classic reinforced snack, in an exclusive location just for you.

Over the years over 20,000 bottles of Rosso di Montepulciano and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano have been uncorked; a new glass was distributed every year, with a different phrase printed in screen printing and dedicated to the world of wine; over 400 people have collaborated in the realization of the event; over 30 bands have performed over the years.
