Every year during the third weekend of September the 29th edition of Vino al Vino takes place, the yearly event promoted by the Panzano in Chianti Winemakers Union with the patronage of the municipality of Greve in Chianti, which with its twenty-nine editions has written the history of this territory. On three consecutive days, from 15 to 17 September 2023, the purchase of a glass of wine will give the visitors the opportunity to establish direct contact with the producer and taste all the wines of the 23 member wineries belonging to the Winemakers Union, gathered in Piazza Bucciarelli, in the historic center of Panzano in Chianti.
The time is perfect to visit the charming Tuscan village, with its natural terrace overlooking the vineyards cultivated according to organic standards, when the grapes begin their journey towards the wine cellars!
The pleasure of a direct contact between wine producers and wine lovers.
Vino al Vino enhaces the pleasure of meeting and sharing. Everyone who is tasting has the opportunity to meet those who are offering old and new vintages of the prestigious Chianti Classico labels. A winning formula: the owners of the estates in person are offering and presenting their wines. The visitor has the possibility to meet the producers, to know about their stories and ideas, to receive details about the characteristics of the vineyards, the techniques of vinification and the different vintages.
“Our Union – explains the President of the Vintners Union of Panzano in Chianti, Giovanni Battista d`Orsi – follows the principle that for learning more about a wine, it isessential to meet directly with its producer.”
The edition 2023 of Vino al Vino focusses on the future after having experienced difficult years, now lying behind.
“The awareness about the difficulties during the pastyears – continues Giovanni Battista d’Orsi – has stimulated us to look at the world with different eyes and to start making important projects for our territory again. The aim is to reconcile the man with the land, with nature, emotions and wine which is its expression and a source for joy and get-together”.
The history of Vino al Vino and the Panzano in Chianti Winegrowers Union
The first edition of Vino al Vino dates back to 1995 when a group of young “farmers from all over the world, united by the passion for wine and the beauty of this territory, had chosen Panzano as the center of their work and for their families.
”The first initiative was to resume an old tradition that had been interrupted for 30 years and to create a festival where the wine producers and wine lovers could meet.
Since that first event at the square, Vino al Vino has grown to become an international event that attracts every year thousands of passionate wine lovers, valorizing the products of Panzano and at th same time creating precious moments of sharing between winemakers, able to amalgamate their different cultures.
In 1996 the vintners founded their non-profit association, the current Unione Viticoltoridi Panzano in Chianti counting today 23 wine estates among the most important in the Chianti Classico area.
One of the new projects is the addition of a spring-preview to the historic event of Vino al Vino in September. The first time it took place was in May 2023 as an all-around edition allowing the visitors to enter the estates and cellars in order to tighten their connection to the wineries and the territory of Panzano.
Travelling to Panzano in Chianti means to get in contact with a welcoming and accommodating territory where the winegrowers, thanks to their Union consolidated over the years, have become custodians of a unique and dynamic model of an bio-territorial development. A virtuous example of excellence where dialogue, collaboration, solidarity and friendship are considered the winning tools to face challenges and the changes in an innovative way.
Since the first moment organic agriculture has been one of the principles of the Union. Today nearly the entire vine growing area of Panzano is cultivated with organic methods. In 2012 was born here the first vine bio-district of Europe.
